I'm a newbie to toodledo-actually just using the free trial of the Pro edition. I can't figure out how to add a subtask directly under a task. The only way I have been able to do this is by adding another task, then dragging it under it's parent task. Once I have a subtask then the "Add a subtask" icon pops up. What am I doing wrong? Is this feature not fully active in the trial edition?

Nope, that's the way it works. There has been the suggestion made already to add the "add subtask" button next to all parent level tasks, but I don't know if it will be interested. Would be nice!

Yes, we need something like this. BTW, I like how you refer to Toodledo as "it".

Currently drag and drop is the only way, but we fully indent to improve this in a future update.

To Toodledo
I like your sense of humor! (...fully "indent" to improve this....)

That is pretty good. I had not even noticed the pun when I first read that post.
