Why no "Cancel" in Search box?

It seems to me there should be a "Cancel" button in the search box, just like in the "Add Task" box. I always hesitate for a second if I decide to leave the Search box without doing a Search, expecting a Cancel option somewhere. Does this make sense?

No it does not.

What do you fear when "leaving the Search box without doing a Search" ?

There is a "Cancel Search" on the right of "the search box".

Advanced search is another story.

Meant "Advanced Search", which is all I use. Should be an option to cancel there as well.

again ,
What do you fear will happen when "leaving the Search box without doing a Search" ?

The "cancel search" only hide the box,

You cannot cancel something that hasn't been done.

I have buttons to cancel search in a softwares, it's there because searching among 100 000 000 items can take a while.

I would like to suggest to the developers that there be a "Cancel" button in the Advanced Search box, just as there is in the Add Task box, so we don't have to run the same search or click on a tab to exit.

Thanks for your consideration.
