It's never been about whether it look nice or not to me or you,

Parts of the UI is "Obviously WRONG" not "Obviously Ugly"

It's about humans understanding how it work without cringing.

PS: You were replying to :
The UI is a very key part of the functionality. Without it getting better the other features/functionality get lost in the mix..........

Your point being : Posted by Scott:
Seriously - I don't understand the issue with the UI.

If there are specific changes you'd like to be made to the UI, and have specific ways you think they could be implemented in such short spans of time as you've predicted, why not go into detail with them in this thread?

Why not draw them up, host 'em on image shack and post them in this thread for reference and inspiration? Why not just write up the specific steps to do it, making Toodledo-for-Transisto a reality within this very thread? If what you'd like to be accomplished is as easy and timely a matter as you seem to believe, erroneously or not, why not take matters into your own hands then?

Why not do something constructive and productive with your passion for it, rather than something you would do? It'd be a project to be sure, but I can recommend an online task manager service that could help manage it for you.

@Transisto,

Dude why are you swearing at me? Relax.

I understand the importance of a UI - I personally just don't find the UI in Toodledo to be wrong, or bad, or inefficient. I actually find it quite useful and generally pleasing compared to others I've used, hence why I continue to use it. I am a human (at least I'm pretty sure that's true) and I'm not sure I've ever cringed at anything in the UI. It works very well for me and I feel that any large scale changes to it would be counter productive to my use.

If you want to take my opinion as a challenge or something, well, I'm really sorry for you.

Cheers!

Given there can be multiple tags I'd like the Multi-edit of tags not to override all previous tags.
There could be a select box "replace/Add" and the default behavior would be Add tags.

There is no keyboard shortcut for going to notebook and most importantly for adding a new note.
This is very unfortunately as the keyboard is what I often use for writing notes.

Toodle UI hard to use but when using keyboard shortcuts it become much more efficient.
Underlining the shortcut letter in the word is common practice, It would promote/suggest the use of shorcuts.

As a PRO subscriber I request this "iCal Tasks Import" upload button to accept a Google iCal URL. And an automatic or semi/automatic way to update gCal tasks into Toodledo. As Google does with your's.
Note : The Toodledo calendar is 99.9% useless comparing to google's one.

(iPhone app REVERT!)I'd like to add that the sync button should return to the first page, Or make it so that tapping setting twice would sync.
Think of all the people that make a modif on the web then leave the house. with the app running 100% of the time...
Well,,, if all 5 todo app I use have "sync" on the bottom bar, It should be a reason.......

All TD 3rd party iPhone apps I use are using email to send task by mail to others with a single click link to import them properly formatted.
I can send as many task in one email and it include everything even sub-tasks.

6 Month ago… “Although I paid for few years of pro up front, and dove into it head first with 200+ task, I'm back to searching for a better alternative to toodledo, In the 5 month I've been here I've seen no update except some filter in the iPhone app that I find of little use, … It look like the whole project is now into Analysis paralysis mode. In the forum I've seen some 50 or more "Thanks for the suggestion ,,, This is on our todo list."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analysis_paralysis The product is priced right but I personally wouldn't mind paying 15 monthly for a better product Or a feeling that it's going to get better at some point.

A monthly newsletter with updates on progress, however small they are, would give me some hope.

@Transisto

I'd already read most of your posts and was familiar with them when I posted previously; what I suggested was something you hadn't yet done in any of your forum contributions.

Put another way, most of your posts/threads follow this basic scheme-

1- I hate 'this and that'
2- Make it 'this'
3- You suck Toodledo, 'a monkey could do this it's so easy and obviously in need of a thorough doing'

I was calling out the latter portion of what tends to be your third beat, the 'a monkey could do this it's so easy and obviously in need of a thorough doing' part. Since you seem very sure of that third beat, why not do the work of the monkey yourself, or make it easier for more qualified people to do? Why not go into detail and write verbatim how you'd go about doing it? Seems like it'd save you and the forum alot of grief about it if it all stirs you up so much, and you're already putting in the time in a way that has yet to lead to a positive outcome.

I've used nearly every task manager on the App Store, and was a long-time Remember the Milk user. I skipped over Toodledo many times because of the UI. I finally took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and am VERY impressed with the depth of the app. I do think there's room for UI improvement, if for no other reason than to make the app more attractive to first-time users.

No, it's not "sexy", but it is very functional. In fact, this week, I scratched an exigent task from my list: "Find a great GTD application".

I too am new. I use this on my iPad, Droid and Mac. Only request I have is on iPad. First, can the right column disappear if no task is selected. I find it distracting to have a task up that I'm not working on. Even a "done" bottom that takes me to a whole page "main" display would be ok.
Second, how about a "hide completed" option? I'm one of those clean desktop people. I like to have no distractions - just what I'm working on visible. Which in tis case is either the list or a specific task. Thanks,

Yes, I fully agree. An updated UI would probably keep new users longer and expanding the user base will be good for all of us.

Given that your newish to Toodledo, you might not have noticed that there are some free user scripts available that can dress up the website and make it more appealing. For these to be used you have to be using FireFox with the free Stylish add-in or Chrome. Check out this web page: http://userstyles.org/styles/browse/toodledo.com and the two I would recommend are "Toodledoish" and "Toodledo Me Too".

And there is a user who has setup something similar for IE - search the forums for "Toodledo Distraction Free".

I feel compelled to offer a few thoughts:
First, I am a UI designer, so whatever credibility that lends, cheers.

Here\'s my thoughts on ToodleDo needing a new UI: Shut it.

I mean really, is the UI here -that- bad? No. It\'s not great, sure, but it\'s functional that\'s absolutely task one. Would I like to see it be prettier? Of course, pretty is always a nice addition to a -functional- tool. With that in mind I went over to userscripts.org, searched for toodledo and found a few dozen user designed interface scripts, and now my toodledo inbox looks like Things. It took 30 seconds, and the problem is solved.

As for the iPad / iPhone thing, Taska is sexy. Period. Go buy it.

If you want to bi4ch and moan about how ugly ToodleDo is, do something about it. The folks at ToodleDo are trying to provide a -tool- and they have done so with a remarkable level of competency. If you think it needs a face lift to be truly useful then dust off your CSS and build a user script. As they say in Zombieland, Nut up or Shut up!

As this is already 90 post long, I don't know to whom you are saying "Shut it, bi4ch and moan about how ugly, Go buy it, Nut up or Shut up!"

If you read the whole thread you might see that some great though and effort went into finding ways to improve specific part of the interface. As a UI designer do you have thoughts on any of them ?

Except maybe for "go to userscripts.org" and "dust off your CSS" your post bring very little.

Edit: I must agree you post fits with the poor title (rant).

First official request to have this thread locked by Toodledo.

I'd also like a way to block certain user's posts from my view. Quite sick of seeing negative, non-productive crud.

Thanks in advance...

I agree the ui needs work. Functional, yes. Pretty, no. But again, it is functional in most ways.

If you are an iPad user I would try Pocket Informant. Works with toodledo perfectly and looks fantastic. IMHO.

I am new to Toodledo and have to agree with you all. This is a great product but could easily be an almost perfect product if you could update your interface. Also recommend that you allow attachments to show in the iPad version and please please accomodate Evernote.

Dear Aaron,
that sounds encouraging, but I am a humble importer of organic rice so there is No CSS to dust off.
Could you provide a script or something we would run in Firefox or Crome and have the nicer UI that is somewhere out there on userscripts?
Thanks
Bruno

What I don't get is why Toodledo don't simply integrate the many third-party CSS files as skins. Obviously, with permission of the authors. Very easy to implement, instant results, then keep working on long term usability improvements.
