Joel,

As a former iPhone user, I share your experiences. :) I tried them all. Now, as a recent emigrant to the Pre, I am starving for a good task management program like Omnifocus or Things. I know that I speak for both myself and many others when I say that your program can not come soon enough.

In any case, how about Earth Task?

From Topic: Keyboard Shortcuts

I do not know about the rest of the suggestions offered here, yet I would REALLY like to be able to switch tasks using the keyboard. Once a given task is selected, it is easy to switch between fields using TAB, but to select that task, one has to use the mouse. Add this functionality and it will dramatically improve the user experience.

I am a heavy user of Toodledo on my iPhone, and I always found that the biggest issue I had was how long it took to add tasks. However, I have found a great solution, and I wanted to share it with the community.

The trick is to add tasks via the Mail application on the iPhone. Set up email task input on Toodledo, then create a contact on your iPhone with your personal toodledo email address (mine is named "Toodledo.";) To quickly add a task, click the button to create a new message, and press the first letter for the name of your contact. Then in the subject field, input the task. To further refine the process, you can create a folder or context in Toodledo that contains tasks that still need to be processed. I created a folder called "p", and use Toodledo's special syntax to file all incoming tasks in that folder. As a final flourish, you can create a new message addressed to your Toodledo contact, switch the focus to the subject line, and then switch applications. When you want to quickly create a new task, all you need to do is open up the Mail application.

Enjoy. :)

I have done something similar using Rules set in Apple Mail (for OS X). Whenever I get a bill (which is usually from the same sender each month, and which usually has the same subject), I redirect that message to Toodledo. As has been mentioned, it still needs to be manually processed, yet the todo already has the link to the bill in the task's Notes.

I love the new status feature. :) I will also second the request for status added as a category to the homepage, and would love to be able to sort by status as well. Finally, I third codelode84's suggestion of a native iPhone app! Right now the biggest downside to using Toodledo is that I often have to reload the slim page, and in many cases this either takes a while or is not available.

I just use folders for "Waiting For" and "Someday Maybe." I give all items in the "Waiting For" folder a priority of 0, and no "Due Date," so they do not show up in my hotlist. I give all "Someday/Maybe" items a -1 priority. Then when I am doing my Weekly Review, I just check the folders.
