We just made a few tweaks that should make reminders/alarms easier to use.

1) If you want every task to send you a reminder, it is now possible to set a default value for the reminder field. Any new task added via the website will have a reminder set automatically. Go into your account settings to set this up.

2) We have added "14 days" and "30 days" as options for the lead-time on reminders (Pro subscribers only).

Unrelated to reminders: We have added some additional information to the popup box that appears when you hover your mouse over a checkbox.

1) It will now show how a task was added, if it wasn't added via the website. Possible values are: iPhone, Firefox, Twitter, Jott, etc.

2) It will now show who assigned the task to you. This allows you to hide the "assignor" column and free up some horizontal screen real-estate, if you want.

We are very happy that Apple has approved the most recently update to our iPhone App. The biggest thing that this update brings is alarms/reminders, using Apple's Push Network for remote notifications. This means that you can get an audible alarm when a task is due. Toodledo will also update your application badge several times a day so you know how many tasks are remaining. Here is the full list of changes.

Additions:
+ Uses Apple's Push Network to update the application badge and receive remote notifications when a task is due, even when the app isn't running.
+ Adding a task now uses a new method that is much quicker and provides more room to type.
+ Added several sort options (priority+duedate, duedate+priority, folder+importance, folder+duedate, star, subtasks).
+ Notes will now detect URLs and phone numbers and allow them to be clicked.
+ Supports cut/copy/paste.
+ Added a start-time field.
+ There is now a new "Start Page" option that will remember the page you were on when you last quit and restore you to that page when you relaunch the app.
+ Editing tasks will no longer uses the cumbersome scroll wheels in many cases.
+ Cleaned up various sections of the app to be more intuitive.
+ Completing a repeating task will now do an instant sync to Toodledo.com to reschedule that task.
+ Now, gives an error message when a sync is attempted without network connection.
+ Added general setting for font size
+ Editing the title and tag fields now use a multi-line text box, so you can see more of what you are editing.

Bug Fixes:
+ Compatibility updates for iPhone 3.0
+ Auto-sync has been improved. It will no longer create duplicate tasks if the sync is interrupted.
+ Editing the note, tag or title now updates the modification time for the task.
+ Fixed bug with due-dates on website and iPhone not matching because of timezones and daylight savings issues.
+ Fixed bug with sorting by due-date and due-time.
+ Fixed bug where clearing a date was not clearing the "optional" flag.
+ If you have more than 999 tasks in a folder, the folder badge will correctly display the full number of tasks inside.
+ Long task names no longer get truncated when viewing the details page.

It may take a few ours for iTunes to update itself and show our new version.

Today we are releasing a Gmail gadget, that you can add to your Gmail sidebar to get quick access to your to-do list when reading your email. This is a super convenient way to quickly add/edit tasks as you process your inbox.

Instructions for installing the Gmail gadget.

In addition, we have made a number of small improvements to our slim website that the Gmail gadget is built upon.

1) The "breadcrumbs" that you can use to go back a level in the hierarchy, are now usable on the task details page and even persist through editing a task or navigating to a subtask. This will make it easier to navigate back up to a list you were viewing.

2) It is now possible to sort by "Importance" and "Status".

3) It is now possible to select "All Tasks" and "Add Task" as default start screens for the gadget.

4) It is now possible to delete a note from a task.

Today we are releasing an enhanced reminder service.

1) It is now possible to select which tasks will send reminders.
2) It is now possible to customize the leadtime for each reminder from 15 minutes to 7 days ahead of time. You can pick a different leadtime for each task. (Pro subscribers only)
3) Emailed reminders will now contain all the pertinent information about the task (folder, priority, note, etc..) so you won't need to visit the website to see the details.
4) Reminders can be sent via email and SMS, with more options coming soon.

This new reminder system is much more powerful than our old system. If you were using our old system (which sent a short non-configurable reminder 1-5 hours before every tasks), this will continue to work until you manually convert over to using the new system.

Reminder Configuration Page

Once you have setup an address at which to receive reminders (using the link above), you can set reminders by clicking the checkbox above the calendar when setting a due-date and time.

If a task has a due date but no due time, any reminders set for that task will use 12:00 noon to calculate the time to send the reminder.

Version 4.55: Improved Backup/Restore capabilities

We have now greatly improved the ability to backup and later restore your own data. We have done this via the "XML Export/Import" tool in our Import/Export/Sync section. An XML export file will now contain all of the information for your tasks and subtasks.

We have also improved the XML importer. It can now restore subtasks nested properly inside their parent tasks (Pro subscribers only). The XML importer has also been optimized to allow it to process much larger import files without running out of memory. The previous limit was 200 tasks per import, but we have now tested this up to 2000 tasks per import without problems.

Additionally, we have gotten the XML importer working better at importing tasks from Vitalist and Voo2do, if you want to migrate from those websites to Toodledo.

While we are taking every precaution to protect your data on our servers, if you are concerned about data loss, you can periodically download the XML backup file and save all of your data to your computer.
