default to future?

Now that the new year is approaching I am encountering this annoying behavior where when I enter a date (e.g. Jan 4) it defaults to the current year (2011). Furthermore, when I try to change the year to 2012 in the pop-up window the change is not sticking! So I am stuck putting in '3 weeks' instead of 'Jan 4' which gets me close enough to the desired date.

I searched and found this as a bug report back in 2010. I guess it wasn't fixed? Or is there a way to make due dates default to the future that I am not aware of?

You can set the default for Due Date to "Next month" by accessing the Task Defaults in Settings:

Agreed. It should default to next year.

"jan 4 12" works for me.

Yes, we know about this issue and are working on it. For now, you will need to specify the year if it differs from the current year "Jan 4, 2012" or you can click on the date in the mini-calendar.
