Newbie here. Can someone explain why tasks with future due dates are showing up in this search string? I assume it's because of the "Due Date exists" condition. But I cannot figure out another way to filter out the tasks with no due date if I remove "Due Date exists" ?

Due Date - exists
or
Due Date - is - Today
or
Due Date - is before - Today
or
Starred - yes

The "Due Date Exists" rule is matching all tasks with any due-date so the other two due-date rules are redundant at that point. I think what you want is this:

Starred - yes
or
duedate is today
or
(duedate exists AND duedate is before today)

Thanks Jake ! How do I do an AND rule along with an OR rule? I only see a pull down option for ANY or ALL at the top when creating the search string. Is there a way to add an AND within an individual rule within the string ?

Jake, in your suggestion, "due date exists" is redundant. Due Date can't be before today unless Due Date exists.

Also, instead of having "Due Date is Today OR Due Date is before Today", you can use "Due Date is before Tomorrow",

The filter then becomes:
Starred = Yes
OR
Due Date is before Tomorrow

The "OR" option becomes available when you click on the "+" sign to the right of an existing search field.
