Just did some more playing with it...

It seems to be something to do with the date. If I set the search to one of the following:
 Date completed is yesterday
 Date completed is 20/10/2010 (which is yesterday's date)
...then a task count is displayed.

However if I set the search criteria to any of the following, the task count is not displayed:
 Date completed is today
 Date completed is 21/10/2010 (which is today's date)
 Date completed is after yesterday

So the script seems to have a problem with today's date. Not sure if it matters but my timezone is GMT+10 (Australia) and my date setting is dd/mm/yyyy in case that has any impact on your code?

Just installed GreaseMonkey in FireFox and the behaviour is exactly the same - seems like checked off tasks can't be counted.

The header shows "1 To-do sorted by Due-Date" (which is correct). I saved this search with another name but still no go.

So I deleted the search and recreated it from scratch and this time saved as Checked off = no and it worked (displayed (0)).

However as soon as I change it to Checked off = yes, the count disappears.

Hi piyush_soni,

Quick question on the updated script - I have one search tab that is not displaying a task count. It is named 'Completed today' and it's set to show tasks where checked off = yes and completed date = today.

I first thought it might be because the tasks were completed but if that were the case, the count should display(0). But there is no count at all on that tab.

Any clue why this one tab doesn't display a task count?

@piyush_soni:

Many thanks! I will install now and give it a try.

@ToodleDo,
I don't think there are too many people who use Search as there default view. And as you said before, a very tiny percent of those come to forums, and an even smaller percentage will install this script, and on top of that not many people have 'a dozen' search counts.

Very good point.

A few ideas:

1. Have a folder named 'Waiting for' and file these tasks in that folder.

2. Enable the Status field and flag these task as 'Waiting'. With this field enabled, you will see a 'Status' view and there will be a 'Waiting' tab.

3. Use a Tag as you already do and use the Tag view to see these tasks.

It really depends on how you use Toodledo as to which method will work best. I use #1 as I follow GTD.

OK, will do.

I only have 6 saved searches and don't plan to force a reload unless I've added a task which is not that often during the day - most are synced in from Todo.

@piyush_soni:

Just noticed something - if I add a task while on a search tab the count is not updated upon save which I can understand.

However if I click the tab itself to force a reload of the tab, the count is not updated either. Or if I switch tabs within the search view it isn't updated.

I have to reload the entire page (browser reload button) to get the count to update, or switch View-by to another view and go back.

@piyush_soni: I love you. ;-)

Seriously - that's fantastic! It works perfectly. I'm quite happy with it displaying task counts on all tabs. The delay is not very much as I don't have lots of search tabs not too many tasks in them.

This is brilliant. I have been using FireFox until recently but am now on Chrome and the installation couldn't have been simply.

Thank you so much.

I didn't know this until a few days ago - just stumbled over it. You can find it here:
https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe

It's very basic compared with the FireFox add-in but it works a treat.

With Stylish, you can dress up the Toodledo UI with simple changes or completely overhaul it. There are a number of scripts for Toodledo already created here: http://userstyles.org/styles/browse/toodledo.com

Note that if you use a script with radius borders in FireFox, it will need a small edit to make it work in Chrome - simply replace "-moz-border-radius:" with "-webkit-border-radius:" and all will be fine.

OK, thanks - that makes sense.

I guess maybe if it was an option so that users have to turn it on it could avoid grief. And maybe even if it was an option on a tab-by-tab basis - I could then activate it on my Inbox search only.

is there any way to bold the name of my tasks or any other formatting?

There is a workaround - if you use FireFox or Chrome you can install the free Stylish add-on and use it to set bold text (or coloured text, etc).

It should work, although you probably need to enable subtasks via your Account Settings.

Yes - I spend most of my time working out of my Hotlist (a saved search) but really need to be able to see if there is anything sitting in my Inbox (another saved search) that needs processing. At the moment I have to switch to that tab to see if anything is there. Task counts let me know what is in other tabs without having to open them.

Jake - any news on where this might be on your Todo list?

Sorry for asking again so soon but I do think that the Search tabs are inconsistent with the rest of Toodledo by not having task counts displayed.

I'm hoping that this might be a small update that might find its way into production soon.

I don't use or need sharing/collaboration but here's what I'd do to workaround the problem.

1. Create your task, and flag it as 'Waiting for', i.e. put it into a specific folder, or use the status field or a context or tag so that you can easily view all such tasks.

2. Clone the task (an option under the Lego icon). This simply creates an exact copy very quickly.

3. Reassign the cloned copy to your spouse. It disappears from your list.

Now you both have a copy - one for you to track and one in your spouse's list to do.

Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, I can.

You need a Toodledo subscription so that you can nest subtasks under a parent task, and this supports Appigo Todo's checklists.

Note that Appigo Todo will insert a few lines of text in the notes field so that it can distinguish between a checklist and a full parent task/subtask structure.

Nevermind!!!!

I've just figured out that if I click on the Lego block, that is an option.

When you're adding a subtask, note that there is a link "Add multiple tasks..." that allows to you add a lot at once.

Is there a last updated date available? In looking through the columns I could not find one. My thinking is it would be nice to see what I have updated recently and what needs attention. A lot of my tasks are follow up types of things and a due date is not required but thinking that if I could see the last update it would help me better track things.

In the Main view, there is a 'recently modified' tab that you might find useful.
