It is still top priority and we are working on it, but it is a big project that affects most of the underlying subsystem of Toodledo so it is long and complicated.

Maybe I was using the word wrong. What I meant was "eventually make go away".

If anyone wants to help beta test push notifications, we are now looking for more beta testers. If you want to be a beta tester, you will receive an advanced copy of the app before it hits the App Store. In return, you would be expected to test the app and give us any feedback or bug reports that you may find.

Beta versions of our software may have bugs that may cause problems, so please be aware of this.

To become a beta tester, we need your iPhone's Universal Identification. To get your iPhones UID:
1) Plug your iPhone into your computer.
2) Click on the iPhone inside iTunes.
3) Click on the word "Serial Number" and it will switch to "Identifier"
4) Type Control-c to copy and paste the 40 character string. Please do not post your UID in the forums. Instead, put it into a support ticket. Give the support ticket the title "iPhone Beta Tester" and please also send your full name and the state or country where you live.

EDIT: We now have the maximum number of beta testers that Apple will allow, so please hold off on submitting your UID to us.

Thanks

We do plan to make defaults work for remotely added tasks. The reason why we haven't done this yet, is because there would be no way to override the default value in some cases, so we need to figure out how to deal with that.

If you are on a slow network connection, and have lots of tasks (more than 1000) it might take while to sync. Just be patient and let it complete. Also, if you are using iPhone 3.0, our app isn't fully compatible, but we have an update submitted to Apple that is, so we'll just have to wait for Apple to approve it.

Thanks for the suggestion and bug report. We'll look into the hotlist email and make sure that it matches the website hotlist.

Without a due-date, how would Toodledo know when to send the reminder?

For people who use this script, please be reasonable with your backup frequency. Once a day should be more than sufficient. Any more frequently will cause unnecessary stress on our servers.

http://www.toodledo.com/classic.php

It is still there, we just took the link away because it is embarrassingly old and doesn't support any of the new things we have added in the last 2 years. It also causes some things to break. For example, if you edit a due-date on the classic page, it will not adjust the time when our new reminders are sent. It is impossible to retrofit classic with the new functionality. We will be permanently getting rid of it soon, so now is the time to migrate.

FYI, we have been carefully monitoring how people are using our website. Fewer than 1% of our users use classic, so we feel like now is an appropriate time to depreciate it.

Yes, there are a lot of bug fixes and improvements that made it into this update. We submitted it awhile ago, and we thought it would be enough time for Apple to review it before 3.0 came out, but Apple must have a big backlog.

Push notifications are 95% implemented and will be coming in an update to immediately follow the update that Apple is looking at right now. The enhanced reminders we just announced were the first obvious step along these lines.

Since iPhone 3.0 was released today, I thought I should say that Toodledo on iPhone 3.0 will run, but it is not fully compatible. You cannot add tasks and a few other quirky things.

We have already submitted a compatibility update to Apple and are just waiting for them to approve it.

If Toodledo on the iPhone is critical to you, I would recommend holding off on upgrading to iPhone 3.0 until our update comes out. I don't know how much longer Apple is going to take, hopefully not long. I am sure that they have a huge backlog.

The other option is to use our slim website in the interim.

I'll answer a bunch of questions here:

1) It is not possible to have a "when due" or "0 minute" leadtime because of the nature of how reminders are sent we cannot guarantee that they would arrive ontime. We can only guarantee 15 minute accuracy.

2) An optional task should still receive a reminder. If it didn't arrive, it may be because the due-time or timezone wasn't correct, or that the reminder was already in the past when you scheduled it. Or, maybe the reminder got blocked by your spam filter.

3) Thanks for the suggestion about adding the reminder to the "Multi-edit" options

4) The daily hotlist email is different from this reminder service. There may be a discrepancy in the hotlist emailed and the hotlist on the webiste due to your filters.

The SMS message will be in the format

Subject: [Name of my task]

Due: [Task Due Date] at [Due Time]

If you are getting something else, your cell phone carrier must have some sort of filtering going on that you'll need to sort out with them. Because text messages have a size limit, there is not room for additional information, like folder, context, notes, etc. If you want all that extra information you will need to switch to using email reminders.

In order to get the email in a timely manner, you will need to configure your phone, if possible, to use push email or to check more often. That depends on your phone.

Hope that helps

We have yet to update the help section, but to answer the question asked above. If you do not use the due-time field, it will pretend that the time is noon for the purposes of sending the reminder. So a task due on Friday with no time, that has a 1 day reminder will get that reminder on Thursday at noon.
