The tag view will only show tags that have active tasks, but you can always make a saved search for the old tags that have only completed tasks. Here is some more info about saved searches.

You could also do what Anders suggested and make a dummy task with the tags that you want to keep alive.

Have you checked the "recently deleted tasks" list under your account settings? It will tell you why a task was deleted. If that list is empty, then the tasks are still there, but you can't see them because of one of your filters.

I am not sure I really understand the problem that you are having. Using the "clone this task" link makes a totally separate task that has the same properties as the original. The two resulting tasks are not linked in any way. Editing one of those tasks will only edit that task and will leave the other task unchanged.

Thanks for the suggestion. A global find and replace functionality across task descriptions is a little beyond the scope of functionality that we envision, but I'll keep it in our notebook for future reference.

On Toodledo, the words "clone", "copy", and "duplicate" all mean the same thing. It takes one task and makes another one that is identical in every way. Now you have two independent tasks.

The reason why we chose the word "clone" was because

1) "copy task" might cause some people to confuse this function with the copy/cut/paste commands built into their computer and they might expect the task to get copied to their clipboard for pasting elsewhere. Since this isn't what we wanted to convey, we chose not to use the word "copy" to avoid confusion with the existing computer terminology reserved for that word.
2) "duplicate task" could also be misinterpreted since the word "duplicate" can be a verb and a noun. If someone read the word as a noun, they might think that they were somehow looking at a duplicate and might look for the original, and think that clicking the link might take them to the original task.

So, we decided to use the word "clone". You could argue that clone could also be used as a noun, so it has the same problem as "duplicate", but "clone task" sounds less prone to confusion to us, and it has fewer characters too, which makes it faster to read.

So, there you go. I hope that helps explain our choice of terminology.

There is a bug with our iPhone app that can sometimes cause duplicated tasks when you are using auto-sync with a poor network connection. If you switch to manual syncing, you wont have the problem anymore. We have already fixed this in our new version of the iPhone app which should be out soon, pending Apple's approval.

We just released a small bug fixes that more aggressively makes the popups disappear when your mouse is no longer hovering over the checkbox. We also fixed a bug that was causing multi-line viewers from toggling open tasks in the calendar view.

Tasks without a due-date are stored in the database with a due-date of zero, so you need to add one more rule which is:

AND Due Date is after Jan 1, 2000 (or whatever date you want to pick that is significantly in the past)

Try using Excel to convert the dates to YYYY-MM-DD format. That should do the trick.

Yes, make sure it is in the YYYY-MM-DD format for the best success. We are working to recognize more formats.
