With version 1.5 of our iPhone app, it is possible to receive audible reminders when a task is due. Toodledo must be installed on your iPhone, but it does not need to be running for this to work. The remote notifications will be sent from Toodledo.com directly to your iPhone at the appropriate time. Toodledo will also update your application badge several times a day so you'll know how many tasks are remaining.
To get remote notifications follow these steps:
- Install or upgrade to version 1.5 of our iPhone App. This requires iPhone OS 3.0 to already be installed.
- Launch Toodledo on your iPhone.
- If it isn't already setup, configure synchronization.
- When it asks about remote notifications, click "Allow". You may need to quit and relaunch Toodledo on the iPhone before it will ask you. If it still doesn't ask you, go into Apple's general "Settings" app and make sure that Notifications are enabled.
- Go to Toodledo.com and go to the Tools & Services section. Click on "Reminders/Alarms".
- Confirm that "iPhone" is selected as one of your reminder slots.
If you cannot get past step 4 above, then this means that your iPhone is not able to properly register for Push Notifications. This could be because your iPhone was unofficially activated (jailbroken, unlocked to run on an unauthorized carrier), or that your carrier doesn't support Push Notifications.
Once you complete these steps, any task that has a due-date AND an alarm set will receive an alert. To set an alarm for a task:
- On the website: Click the "remind me" checkbox above the due-date calendar.
- On the iPhone: Edit the "remind me" field for a task and set a value. Be sure to sync the task back to Toodledo.com, so that the website knows to send you a reminder.
You can further customize the alarm time by setting a due-time. For more info about alarms/reminders, please read our alarm help topic.
Due to delays in various parts of the system, reminders may arrive plus or minus 5 minutes from the actual reminder time. If your cell phone company does not support push notifications, they will never arrive and there is no way for us to detect that they didn't. You'll need to confirm with your carrier that they support push notifications.
If you no longer want to receive remote notifications, you can adjust your settings in Apple's "Settings" app on the iPhone under "Notifications".
