shortcut to edit task

I'm a heavy keyboard shortcut user, and I love being able to jump from task to task with CTRL-up/down, but I often find myself navigating to the main page with no task selected, and needing to grab my mouse to select a task before navigating between them.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for initially moving the focus to a task (perhaps just the first one) for editing? If not, I would find such a shortcut extremely useful. (One intuitive method would be to have CTRL-down take you to editing the first task when no task is selected..)
