Open details for a task

Okay, this is pretty basic but I can't figure it out. I want to open a task so I can see the details, the notes field.
The only way I've found is to enable the 'show details' but that shows the details for all the tasks on my screen. There seems to be no way to click a task to open it. What am I missing? |

If you are viewing your list in grid mode, you can view an individual note by clicking on the note icon, which is on the far right side of each task. If you are viewing your list in multi-line mode, you can view the note by clicking on the right facing triangle on the left side of each task.
