Thousands of items from 2004 are reappearing - HELP!!

Has anyone had this happen before? I noticed on the app that thousands of overdue items were there back to 2004, which is crazy and I have NO IDEA how this could have happened, I wasn't even on the app when I saw that number on my phone. I also see too that there are NO COMPLETED items listed at all either - which is crazy too!!!
Is there a way to all at once delete items that are from that far back - not sure what to do at all?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to mass delete all of these, you can just go into the task search functionality and bring all those tasks up by searching on something like [due date] [is before] "2005" or whatever frames the set you want to get rid of. Then on the drop down menu, you can do a batch edit. One of the operations there is to delete the entire list.
