Creating task in iOS creates unwanted email alert

I have email alerts turned off in ToodleDo on the PC. However, when I create a new to-do using ToodleDo on my iPod Touch, it ignores this setting and sends an email alert. I see no way to turn this off. Annoying.
The only setting on the iPod I can find that seems remotely related is "Task alarms come from device" but I assume that means audible alarms, not email alerts.

You must have email alerts turned on. Go into the "Tools & Services" section and then "Reminders" and remove your email address.
