Thanks Hasi for your reply

Here is my current thinking:

1. David Allen has recently changed his definition of context. He now describes it as "where your body needs to be to carry out the next action". See his recent newsletter. This is a much narrower definition of context than before. The former "contexts" he now gives direct names to (e.g., tools)

2. David Allen is now widening his factors for deciding which next action to pick. Again, see his recent newsletter

3. The way I read this is that extra fields should be available for customisation. It is disappointing that none are available because GTD is unique with its next action approach and making the decision "in the moment"

4. Having Tags as multi-valued makes it a very long list to have to navigate to pick from. I can't see why there isn't a field called "Person responsible" available. This would also become usable for Agendas. The restriction to Toodledo collaborators is unrealistic since most persons responsible would be not using Toodledo

5. It seems to me that a simple redesign of Collaborators would provide this functionality. That is, add to the Collaborators function a check box to indicate the person is not a Toodledo user.

6. Tags is also a design anomoly. All the other fields provide an edit capability and a protocol to add the new item and save it. The dialog box for tags has a field where additional tags are added. In Firefox when I select an existing tag from the list, it is unclear whether the selection actually occurred. I have to dismiss it and see if the field is populated with the tage I think I pciked.

7. I would like to know whether it is proposed to work on the “Day Flavour” / Events capability".

In summary, I think Toodledo is close to being the superior GTD app. One of the points David Allen makes frequently is the avoidance of stress by knowing the system can be reliably trusted to make deciding on the next action quicker, but more importantly, foolproof. I cant understand why it lacks separate fields formerly called contexts (e.g., tools, resources, weather) which would facilitate this

Warm regards/gary

Thanks Hasi

Thank you for your honest reply. I will be equally honest too

Answering your question about device
=============================
I use windows desktop, firefox browser. I am considering an android smartphone to input tasks during the day as I move around the farm.

Uncertainty over business plan
=======================
I went to the url you listed (toodledo.com/info/pricing.php) but I got a 404 error

However, on the page https://www.toodledo.com/subscribe/ it just mentions "Business". When I click on it it suggests that if there are 1-5 employees, the "Plus" plan is the right one. I assume this means the "Business" plan is much more expensive.

This toodledo app is just for myself. I am the sole operator of my farm with its grass fed cattle. I am worried that it might be considerably more expensive than the plus pricing.

Obviously, I want the extra fields. Equally obviously, it has to be affordable

Events/"Day flavour"
===============
On the subject of events, I understand you are offering a workaround. I have to be honest with you and say that this is seen as a basic GTD capability. So when you say that it "isn't on our immediate roadmap" I am shocked.

Thanks Hasi for your detailed reply - much appreciated

You say context is for "locations, tools, or people" and I agree. Because it is also essential to identify the conditions for the task I need extras. In my case working outdoors weather is important.

Two questions:

1.
Please, which of your higher plans adds extra fields/columns to the main view in the web app?

2.
One more question Pocket informant allows an "event" to be identified. GTD suggests this allows a day in the calendar to be identified as special because it "flavours" the entire day guiding how you approach it. For example, the birthday of a significant other. Are you planning to add this functionality?

Hi

As a trial user, I posted a query which is unanswered by peers which is understandable because peers would not be able to answer it

I am wondering why no-one from Toodledo is here answering this kind of query

When I compare Toodledo to Everdo, Facil Things, MLO, Nirvana, Pocket Informant, Remember the Milk, Tick Tick, and Todoist, it seems to me that for both desktop and Android, Toodledo is superior. It has a better layout and is more comprehensive because it covers Tasks, Outlines, Lists and Habits

Therefore, I am surprised that Toodledo left my post unanswered

Hi

I am in trial mode for the web app

I really like the table layout

I am inputting values

It doesnt make sense to me to have to put a list of people and organisation names in context which should be places and tools

Score: 1
By single dimension, I mean that only one context can be added but David Allen says that context has five aspects (1) location (2) presence or people (3) tools or resources (4) Occasion (or an important time, event, ceremony, or celebration) (5) environment which is simply the weather - vital for farmers using GTD

So why doesnt Toodledo separate ALL them so that a Task can be multidimensional with context.

PS

I know that it has separated Presence or People, but that is all

Score: 2
My name is gary and I am in Australia and i run a large farm

I have been trialling toodledo and am contemplating buying a subscription

i am an expert GTD user but I am not sure how to set it up in toodledo

the windows browser version i have downloaded seems to use folders for the GTD categories (inbox, next, someday/maybe, agendas etc) but this limits the filtering i can do with tags. An important context is sunny/dry, wet, windy because this determines the kind of work i can do on the farm. but the way tags seem to be setup I cant "cut and dice" my actions very well. In other words, i want to separate my life into farm cattle, farm repairs and admin (tax, payments, etc), my counselling studies, and family but this seems to belong in folders but they are already used by the GTD categories. So i am confused. I looked in the guides and the forum for any documentation but found none. I also looked on the david allen shop but there is no GTD guide.

Appreciate any suggestions

One thing i like is the spreadsheet columns main view. However, it seems to me there should be multiple filters available which can be custom named and setup with their own user-definable value list. In the tranition from paper to software david allen seems to have overlooked that there is no need to distinguish contexts and tags. The design of toodledo does get the GTD horizons right which is an achievement most other GTD software has either got wrong or ignored
