Can't "complete" tasks before set due date?

I seem to be having some trouble marking items as complete before the set due date. I check them off - but they remain on my active list - unchecked. The only way I've found around this is to modify the due date to an earlier date - then mark the task as complete.
Am I doing something wrong?

I think the problem may be that you have set the tasks to be repeating tasks, which means that they get rescheduled when you check them off. If you dont see the "repeat" field, you may have turned it off. You can turn it on in your account settings.
