Can different views have different settings with respect to flattened subtasks that are saved each time that particular view is opened?

Yes, the subtask filter is remembered for each view separately.

I have a different problem - my "subtask flatness" state is never remembered (I always like to see the hierarchy, but every time I enter a folder it defaults to flat). Is there a setting I should be using?

(Data dump: Linux, Firefox, Pro subscriber, and I do use the Toodledo app and Appigo notebook to sync from an iPhone occasionally)

If you click on "Filters" and then "Nest subtasks" it will remember that setting the next time you come back to that view.
