What is the maximum number of tags?

i have found posts describing the tag view showing 25-50 tags. But I do not know if this is the max number of tags.

I would like to setup a system that requires a large number of tags (in conjunction with folders and context). I would hate to hit some max number of tags like 50.

I'm not sure if there is a limit to the number of tags you can have. I found the following info in the help system but it doesn't mention tags:

There is no limit to the number of tags, but at some point (many hundreds) the website may slow down when trying to view the complete list of tags due to the amount of data being transferred and processed.
