If you have downloaded the Outlook client from my web site you may have noticed the Micropledge fund that I have set up. This fund is to gather funds to allow me to fix the Outlook security popup problem that some people are experiencing with the application.
I think its worth reposting the original post for this because I don'tt hink that it is obvious that this fund is to support the development of the tool instead of lining my pockets ;)

The original post is below:

-------

If you are using my Outlook Synchronization application then you might have encountered the annoying Outlook security pop up that stops the automatic synchronization process from running.

I have been researching this issue and I have found a fix but it requires me to buy a commercial third party software library for US$200.

I want to keep the synchronization client as a freeware utility, so I
have created a Micro Pledge project to see if some of this money can be raised from the application users. If there is enough support then I'll buy the license and add this fix in.

The Micro Pledge project is here: http://micropledge.com/projects/toodledosync-outlook-security-fix

For the technially inclined, this web site gives a good sumary of the Outlook security problem and the various fixes. I've chosen the Redemption approach as being the best suited to fix the problem.

Apparently Outlook 2007 users in a stand alone environment (ie not connected to Exchange) may be able to get around the security prompt by playing around with the Trust Center (Tools | Trust Center ) settings.

Can anyone confirm this?

Sort of new to Toodledo, so I haven't been through the forums yet, or tried this Outlook Sync, but has anyone tried the free version of Express ClickYes? Seems to work great for me in other circumstances with the annoying security popup.

The link to the free version is at the bottom of this page:

I've closed this project down, as there seem to be plenty of third party tools out there that bypass the Outlook security prompt:

Thanks to everyone who pledged - you can get the pledges back through the Micropledge site.

The first one (advanced security for outlook) seems much better than the second but... I'm probably too stupid to use it.

How can I tell him that SyncApp.exe may access Outlook if I never get an alert with the chance to click "yes, remember"?!?

UPDATE: works perfectly after rebooting...

I found a fix for this, at least for Outlook 2007:

1) Go to Tools -> Trust Center
2) Click Programmatic Access
3) Select "Never Warn me..."

Works fine with my OUtlook 2007 (with ALL UPDATES APPLIED) and Toodledosync.

Regarding the above post, I see all the options grayed out in the Programmatic Access window. Why would that be?

I have been using MAPILab and after an annoying number of pop-ups after initial installation it seems to have subsided. But now my Outlook seems much slower. Does anyone else notice the slowness with MAPILab?

An alternative to using a tool like MAPILab's "Advanced Security for Outlook" is to install an Antivirus software that monitors Outlook. Outlook wiil not display the security prompt if you have an active antivirus software.

Fortunately, for those who do not want to pay for a bloated antivirus tool like Norton's or Mcafee, AVG (http://free.avg.com/) offers a free edition that will also do the trick. I only just installed it, so I can't vouch for how effective it is at protecting against viruses. But it's free so I can't complain and it stopped the annoying Outlook security popup!

UPDATE: I was wrong. AVG does NOT prevent the popup. After I rebooted, even though AVG was active and running, the security popup appeared again. I installed MAPILab and all is good.

That only works for Outlook 2007 users. Outlook 2003 users are forced to use an add-in

Avast! also make a free av scanner, btw
