Hello

Is there any way to have the client synchronize the to-dos only when Outlook is running?

Not at the moment, although the client should automatically start an instance of outlook to run the sync anyway.

Why would you need this?

...because Outlook won't change my To-Dos when it is not running. And my To-Dos don't need to be actual in Outlook if it is not open and I can not see them!

Synchronizing all the time would be no problem if it didn't involve starting an instance of Outlook every time and slowing down the whole machine by doing that.

The best would be if the Sync Client would start and stop at the same time as Outlook.

Ok, I see your point, but in my experience most people who have Outlook keep it running all the time anyway.

I'll have to think about this one. In the mean time I'd just disable the automatic sync if I were you.
