That is great news Andrew! And very timely as my Toodledo subscription needed to be renewed today and this was the one thing holding me back!

Hi Andrew,

I can get some of my subtasks to show up but not all. My Optional Repeats do not show up. These are important for my repeating daily tasks. Having them repeat optionally ensures that they don't start stacking up undone. Is that something that is supported in this version?

Thanks

Hi Alisa,

Subtasks are subject to whatever filters you have set. If you've lost some of your subtasks, try setting your filter to All Tasks and check 'Show completed'. Do they show up then?

The optional repeat feature for subtasks works the same in TaskAngel as it does in Toodledo. Here is how Toodledo describes it:

<quote>
Repeating Subtasks
If you have a subtask that is set to repeat, it will automatically reschedule itself and remain within its parent task each time that you complete it.
Repeating Tasks with Subtasks
If you have a task that is set to repeat and this task contains subtasks, those subtasks may or may not get carried forward depending on your settings. To have a subtask carried forward when you complete a repeating parent task, you must set the subtask to repeat in some fashion. Subtasks have an additional repeating option of "With Parent" which can be used when you only want to complete a subtask once within each occurrence of the parent task. Subtasks that do not repeat are considered to be one-time tasks that will not be carried forward when you complete the parent task.
<end quote>

If TaskAngel seems not to be working like this for you, please give me details of the incorrect behaviour.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

My tasks and sub-tasks in Toodledo are fine. In TaskAngel some of my subtasks are not showing up. The subtasks that are not showing up are set to repeat as follows:

?Today - Daily

The question mark means the subtask is optional so if I forget to check off the subtask as done one day it just roles over to the next day (great for routine tasks!)

Thanks for your help.

Hi Alisa,

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry but TaskAngel doesn't currently support optional tasks. I'll add it to our enhancements list.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Thanks for the reply back. I will still trial the program and try to work-around not having the optional repeats. Perhaps I can list them in a Note for reference.

I did notice, however, that the TaskAngel did change all my due
?Today Tasks to Due Yesterday so that may be a problem as now I have to reset them to optional again.

Also, I do have some subtasks that repeat with parent with no due date that do not appear in TaskAngel either.

Thanks for your work on this program!

Hi Alisa,

I'm sorry we messed up your optional tasks. Toodledo is such a great service, rich in features. It will take us a while to catch up.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Can Optional Recurring Tasks / Subtasks be included in your next update?

It looks like the only workaround would be to just give everything an actual due date. I assume this would mean than I would end up with a bunch of overdue tasks if I didn't religiously check them off daily or reschedule them for the next day.

Ideas?

Hi Alisa,

In TaskAngel, you can set the frequency of a repeating subtask to "With Parent". If the parent task is set to repeat, then when you complete it, all of its subtasks are automatically repeated, whether you marked them as complete or not.

Is this a better workaround for you?

Please make sure you have Build 132 of TaskAngel. This fixes a problem with repeating subtasks going into the wrong position on the task list. Please visit our download page at http://www.mypocketsoft.com/taskangel/download.aspx

Hi Andrew,

I am still having trouble viewing my sub-tasks in TaskAngel. I did have one task where the subtask showed in TaskAngel so I tried setting other tasks/subtasks with similar attributes to get them to show up but no luck. Newly created tasks/subtasks (in Toodledo) show up but not edited (in Toodledo) tasks/subtasks. I tried resyncing and the subtasks did not carry over, despite giving them a hard due date. I also tried it with no due date.

BTW TaskAngel does recognize the optional repeat (?Today) for my tasks - just not the subtasks.

OK, playing around a bit more I discovered that newly created tasks/subtasks in Toodledo are viewable in TaskAngel and if you move them in Toodledo then TaskAngel recognizes this. I tried moving an older subtask to the task position and then moving it back as a sub-task but TaskAngel still did not recognize it. I did refresh the Toodledo screen first before syncing but that didn't make a difference.

Also, the one older subtask that does appear in TaskAngel had no due date. The other subtasks with a hard due date do not show up.

Update: I was able to get my subtasks to show up as soon as I gave them a priority higher than -negative. :)

Hi Alisa,

That's a relief. I hope this explains the problems you mentioned in your last three posts.

TaskAngel always hides task with negative priority, unless you select Priority Negative in the Filter Panel.

Best wishes,
Andrew
