I have a request about tags that's related to these prior posts, so I'm re-using that thread.

In the main menu...View By > Tags, could we have an option to sort the tags alphabetically? Same request applies to the Slim site as well.

Thx!

BTW, one minor issue I have with Toodledo is related to this discussion of shortcut keys. That is, I find that Toodledo responds to the F1, F3, F10, and F11 keys in an undocumented way (at least I couldn't find any mention of it). This isn't a huge problem, but it was a surprise to me, and there's one key annoyance caused by this.

It turns out that Toodledo intercepts the F11 key - which is used by virtually all browsers to toggle Full Screen mode on/off - and does something else with it. So I cannot use the F11 key to toggle Toodledo into full screen mode.

I'm so used to using the F11 key to do this on my smallish laptop screen that I do it out of muscle memory, and am always annoyed when Toodledo intercepts the F11 key and changes the display of the page in a way I didn't want.

Could this be fixed? Thank you!

Is it possible to underline the letter that's the keyboard shortcut for the various toolbar/menu items? Sort of like the menu toolbar in Windows apps? As we get more shortcut keys, that would be a useful reminder for me.

Thx!

This is the currently intended behavior. The reason why is because if we broke out all the tags, a task could appear multiple times on the same page and this may cause confusion. For example, people might think they have duplicate tasks, and might delete one of them, which would delete all of them (obviously a bad result).

I see. I appreciate the response. But that is how the slim/#_tags page works and...for the record...that is the "expected behavior" for me. I'm glad at least the slim/#_tags page works that way.

On the main Toodledo site, if I select from the top menu row "View By: Tags" - the way the tasks are segmented by tags appears to be incorrect to me; whereas the corresponding slim/#_tags site sorts the tasks by tags exactly as I would expect it to. It appears to me there's something wrong with the way tag sorting is implemented on the main "View By: Tags" page.

On the "View By: Tags" page, tasks with more than one tag aren't sorted into individual tag groups like they are on the slim/#_tags page. They are sorted as if the entire list of tags assigned to a given task are one continuous phrase surrounded by quotes. This results in a very confusing list that looks something like this...

tagA
tagA, tabB
tagA, tagB, tagC
tagA, tagC
tabB, tagC
tagC
...

The slim/#_tags page sorts the tags as expected. Tasks with multiple tags assigned are sorted as if each tag were independent. The same task list example shown above looks like this...

tagA
tagB
tagC
....

Is there something wrong with the "View By: Tags" page? Or is that the intended design for some reason?

Thx!

I tend to favor the approach advocated by Michael Linenberger http://www.michaellinenberger.com/home.html that uses Task Start Date - or Date Added - as a key sorting criteria. The idea is that tasks that don't get done are often times over come by events and become less important as time goes on. That's not always true, but for my personal to-do items (shopping, errands, etc.)...it's definitely true.

In any case, I have a few folders that I like to sort by Start Date or Date Added (I have my default for new tasks to set Start Date to Today...so they're the same for me).

The Toodledo Slim page is my only effective access to Toodledo when out and about with my Windows Mobile phone (yes, Virginia, not everyone has an iPhone). Unfortunately these sort options are not listed on the Slim site.

Would you consider adding the ability to sort on Start Date or Date Added to the Slim site please?

Thank you!

Do you know how to get the script to work in "https://..." mode?

Okay...to answer my own question (trust me, I'm a novice at this, so any advice is welcome)...I uninstalled the script mentioned above...downloaded the *.js file to my hard disk...opened it in Notepad and changed the @include line from "http://..." to "https://..."...then dragged it onto the Chrome extensions tab whereupon Chrome gave me the option to install the script...which I did.

Now it works when I'm in https://... mode (which I prefer for obvious reasons)! Cool!

Hej,

Chrome 4 fully supports GreaseMonkey Scripts. Did you try to install the user.js file?

Martin

Progress! Your post helped me a lot as I wasn't sure if I had a greasemonkey problem or a script problem.

I did try installing this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/35249 which I'd used before in Firefox, but it didn't do anything. No errors on installation, but no effect either.

Reading a bit more I came across this forum post
http://www.toodledo.com/forums/3/2304/0/greasemonkey-firefox-script-for-auto-show-subtasks.html
and realized I had the same problem. The @include line in the script was for "http://..." ; but as a pro user, I'm always in "https://..." mode.

I found the user.js and manifest.json files for the script under my Chrome user folder...
D:\Documents and Settings\(myloginid)\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\hfdielppjjinejlmlbkkmgeioephdjde\1.0
...opened them in Notepad and changed the @include line from "http://..." to "https://..." ...but it didn't change the way the folders display when in "https://...." mode.

However, if I use http://www.toodledo.com/views/folder.php ...the script works just fine....the folders display down the left side of the page as desired. Further, if I go into the Chrome Extensions menu, I can toggle the script enabled/disabled and so change the way the Toodledo folders display on the fly.

Do you know how to get the script to work in "https://..." mode?

Thx!

Is there a way to get tabs listed vertically using Chrome? That is, instead of tabs listed across the top of the page, have them listed down either the right or left side of the page.

I know this can be done with Firefox and some greasemonkey scripts; but can it be done with Chrome?

Thx!

For technical reasons related to how we designed Toodledo in the beginning, a task can only appear on-screen once. This is why we can't list it under each tag grouping when sorting by tag. If you go into the tag view and click on the tabs across the top, then the task will appear in each appropriate section. We are looking into ways to improve this in the future.

Any update on this? I find the current method doesn't work as expected.

The tabs across the top are inconvenient and not suited for quickly moving between tags. More convenient is to go to the "All Tags" tab and sort on tabs...using the collapse/open divider function or clicking on individual tag headers to open that tag group.

If the "sort by tag" feature worked as expected, the "All Tags" tab would be very useful. As it is now, tags seem hard to use.

I got an email from screencast.com to tell me I reached my monthly bandwidth limit.
oops.

Well it was nice while it lasted!

Seriously, it was very nice of you to post those...the screencast was definitely worth a thousand words. I'd read your previous posts on how your setup worked and would never have understood it, or gotten it's simple elegance, from those postings. In just a few seconds of visually seeing your setup, I grocked it immediately and it really opened my eyes to some huge improvements I could implement in my own approach.

So...thanks!

I've been reducing the number of tasks -- down from 300+ to about 230 now and it seems to be getting faster (not sure if there's any TD changes behind the scenes). I found that I'd developed a bad habit from the old days when I used Outlook and that I kept a lot of notes/reference data as Tasks because it sync'ed so well between my various computers/laptops/cell-phone. But I'm weeding out things that aren't true tasks.

Also, as a work around, I find that just hitting F5 clears the search and gets me going faster than anything.

Thx for all the attention...

Are you using Firefox? The last update of Firefox seems to have some performance problems with lists of several hundred tasks. We are trying to optimize for this.

I do have several hundred tasks - around about 300 in fact.
In Firefox v3.62a and Chrome 4.0.202.0; Toodledo hangs immediately upon clicking the "Cancel Search" link. The delay is 5-20 seconds depending, then Toodledo begins responding again.

In FireFox 3.5.2 (production release) - clicking the "Cancel Search" link results in immediately closing the search pane, but then Toodledo hangs and eventually comes back with a dialog box pop-up that says..."Warning: Unresponsive script. A script on this page nay be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now.
or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: https://www.toodledo. comfncludes/prototype.js: 1265

Hope that info helps!

I may be doing something wrong, so hoping an ol' timer can help me out.

I find the "f" shortcut key quite handy. I can quickly enter a search term to find a task.

But if I try to cancel the search, either by hitting "escape" or clicking the "Cancel" link...well, Toodledo hangs up for 10-20 seconds or longer. It eventually comes back, so no data loss, but it makes searching so painful I avoid using this feature to avoid the delay.

Is there some trick to this that I don't know about?

thx!

I use Windows 7 RC and Outlook 2007 with Toodledosync and the combination works fine....exactly as it did under Vista with Outlook 2007.

My Windows 7 RC was a "clean install" of Windows...as recommended for those who'd previously run Windows 7 beta. After the "clean install" of Windows 7, I reinstalled Outlook 2007, then Toodeldosync...and everything functioned just fine.
