Huh... I'm supposedly "watching" this topic, but I didn't get any emails that there were responses to it.
Thanks, that field wasn't turned on. I'm still playing with it but that looks like a good solution. (Of course, that adds yet another mostly-useless column to my screen, which once again brings up the "please redo the UI" topic, but that's another rant.) Thanks! |

This is an old problem, but I'm wondering whether there are any new solutions to it.
I'm interested in a "duration" field, which would specify the number of days that a given task would stay in the "due today" field. I.e., if a task was set to be due on 2/1, and given a duration of "5", then on 2/4 it would still be "current." On 2/7 it would be 2 days overdue, since it was supposed to be completed on 2/5. The aim of this would be to address the problem of tasks which take multiple days to complete. Simply saying "just split it up into single-day tasks!" is a bad suggestion, since the single-day chunking is arbitrary; I could very well split every task I have into hourly chunks and create tasks that way, but I don't because not all tasks require that level of granularity. I think this could be a good way to get around that. Any thoughts? This message was edited Feb 04, 2011. |

Screenshot? I'm not using the default, and I don't see that on my machine.

Posted Dec 20, 2010 in: new task dates automatically assume previous year
Score: 0
The logic in the "create new task" assumes that the due date specified is in the same year. This is probably a mistake; I would venture that the vast majorities of to-dos are created for future dates, and not previous ones. My suggestion is that the code is updated so that if all new dates are assumed in the future. This would prevent new tasks entered today for, say, Jan 4, to have the default due date of Jan 4, 2010, almost a year ago. Thanks!

Currently, I can set a task to repeat as often as I want, so long as it only occurs once a day. I would be interested in a feature that would allow it to repeat as often as I want, even within a single day (four times a day, etc.). I imagine this could be set up as both a drop-down list of options (every half hour, every hour, etc), or as a free-form text entry where I could enter times ("8:30 AM, 12:00 PM, 7:00 PM"). Thanks for considering this!

Is it possible to sort calendar output by folder/context, such that only items from a certain folder or context are added to the calendar? The recent blog post referred to "resources" for contexts. As I use iCal, that won't work for me, but how about folders? Thanks!

The forums do appear (for me, at least) in ascending order, with oldest posts first, newest at bottom. This is standard forum layout. Some forums offer descending order; six of one, half-dozen of the other.
I also agree with salgud that this forum format is exceptional - easy to use, very little visual cruft, very quick and responsive. Much better than, say, phpbb or vbulletin. |

Nice update. Also, thanks for implementing the tabbing update so quickly. (I didn't know that -1 removes from tab order... guess that was easier than I thought it would be!)

Thanks, I had forgotten about that. I like to keep that checked, as it makes form submission faster, but I can just use option-tab as it says to skip those links. I'll try getting used to that. Thanks for the feedback!

One of my favorite features of toodledo is the ease of adding a new task, particularly by keyboard. Most tasks require only six keystrokes (minus writing the actual task), depending on your setup. For me, it's:
- "n" to get new task panel, begin typing the task name (the cursor is already in the box! awesome!) - "tab" to get to folders - "tab" to get to dates - "tab" to get to repeat - "tab" + "enter", task is now saved For that reason, the new addition of "add multiple tasks" and "import tasks" - the first of which I welcome greatly, the second of which I don't think I'll ever use - kind of screws me up, but can be easily fixed. I now have to tab past both of those links to get from the task name textbox to the "folders" dropdown. So, the request here is: can you add a "tabindex" attribute to the forms such that the links are last in line. Reading the tabindex spec, this may be a pain, since you can't just "put it last"; you'd have to actively put everything else first, which I imagine could be a royal PITA, depending on how you have your forms generated. Well, you're the smart developer; here's my feature request. :) Thanks! This message was edited Oct 07, 2010. |

You first need to enable subtasks. You do this by visiting "account settings", clicking the "edit" link next to "subtasks", checking the "Enable Subtasks" box, and clicking "Save Changes."

First, how do I indicate that I have completed a task? I read about 'recently completed tasks' but the tasks I finished in the last two days are showing up as overdue. How do I put them in the completed category. To the far left of every task is a little square box. Click on that box to indicate a task has been completed. Second, I am not sure I want my tasks sorted by importance, but I have been unable to turn this feature off. I'd like to at least see what it's like without this. At the very top of the screen you should see the words "View by:" followed by a bunch of links. Those allow you to sort your tasks however you want. This message was edited Sep 01, 2010. |

The answer to this is easier than you think. Set it to be due on the day of your choice (Sunday in your example) and then set the Repeat to "every other week". The limitation here is that you can't write it using the syntax you're describing (because toodledo separates due dates from repeat dates), but the outcome is exactly the same.

@ brevious, you're probably thinking of github. However, that's very different from here.
~~~~ I'm going to echo PeterW's thoughts. What you have here is users - most likely power users - giving you free advice as to what we think is a problem. The only similarity between us forum-goers is that (1) we use Toodledo and (2) we care enough about it to post to your forum. Other than that, we each use it completely differently, and we each have completely different opinions as to how it should be developed. As such, when a large majority of the people in this forum agree that a particular aspect of Toodledo needs to be revamped, chances are that the vast majority of the other users would agree too. Thanks for the detailed reply. Of course there are many factors that affect your choice of feature development; I don't think anyone here doubts that. The fact is that there are areas which we feel are more crucial to be addressed, and as your users I'd say we're representative of a good portion of your userbase. Your comment on "thousands of people using locations" is misleading, since (given the general feelings in the forums) I would venture to say that most were trying it out to see how they can work it into their system. Based on the feelings here, I'd guess that most would not end up using it.
Personally, I'm thrilled to hear that you guys were able to hire a dedicated iPhone developer. I use the iPhone app all the time, so it's a benefit to me, and its excellent to hear that you're doing well enough to expand your payroll. I would hope that your next move would be to either hire or work with a contractor to get a UI specialist on your team to help improve the website. You know that the vast majority of the users will never set foot in the forums, and you'll probably never hear from them, ever. Us forum-goers are giving you free feedback on your system, and many, many people have complained about the UI. Time to fix it. |
What @claudio said is quite right. It seems that the developers have chosen to work on their own schedule and with their own priorities instead of listening to users. I like Toodledo a lot. However, I paid to use this program, and when a program has large, glaring problems - the largest of which @peterw stated above - and the developers ignore that to implement gimmicky features like location, it makes you wonder whether you trust their both their judgement and overall vision for where Toodledo should go.
Unfortunately, I have to state that I'm disappointed with the latest addition. The location feature is a nifty little trick, but for almost all of my tasks I know exactly where to do it, and for most of my tasks the location is the name of the folder (work, home, etc.). I can't imagine that adding a map to Toodledo was one of the most requested features. Even more so, while this feature may be useful, I have a hard time believing that this is a deal-breaker for some people ("oh, I can't pin a location on a given point in the map... nope, I ain't using THAT software!").
From a different angle, you folks have received feedback from many users here in these forums that the user interface needs a significant overhaul. That you would spend your valuable time adding a "gimmicky" feature instead of overhauling an aging and significantly lacking aspect of Toodledo makes me seriously concerned about how the Toodledo team prioritizes their time. I'm sorry I can't say something nice about this addition, but that's my take on this update. This message was edited Aug 26, 2010. |
The easiest solution would be to set up a second email address (free at any of a number of locations; hotmail.com, yahoo.com, google.com, among others) and have all email to that address forward to your "real" one. That way, you will still receive email notices and such.
Personally, I just have it Toodledo.com as my first bookmark in my Safari bookmarks bar. I can get to toodledo by doing the following -
1) launch safari 2) hit command-1 Since Safari is one of the fastest-launching apps on the mac, that usually takes between 2 and 3 seconds, which is enough for me. Combine that with keyboard shortcuts for adding new todos and I can go from a blank desktop to having added my todo and quit safari in about seven seconds. |
