No iOS app update since 2024.
No roadmap movement since I-don’t-know-when (https://toodledo.canny.io/). Pretty much no activity in the forums. So, is it safe to say that Toodledo is no longer maintained? Is the web version at least updated in a regular fashion, or are you running stuff on outdated libs with known security holes? |

Those are fair questions, and I'd rather answer them properly than defensively — because from the outside, I can see exactly why you've drawn the conclusion you have.
On the iOS app. I think this is the most useful thing I can tell you: if the Toodledo icon on your phone isn't the dark blue one, you're on the Legacy app, and that's the one that hasn't moved. There are Next Generation iOS and Android apps — rebuilt from the ground up rather than patched — with interactive notifications, bulk edit, bulk rescheduling of overdue tasks, a dark theme, rich text in notes and improved search. We keep a list of the gaps between Legacy and Next Gen, and we'd genuinely rather hear about the one we've missed than have you assume we don't care. On Canny. We're decommissioning it, and the reason is unromantic: their pricing moved from free to around $10,000 a year. For a tool whose job was collecting feature requests, that maths doesn't work for an independent company our size, so we're not renewing. That's on us for leaving it visibly stale in the meantime rather than saying so — a public board that hasn't moved reads as a dead product, and I understand why it landed that way. In the interim, feature requests are best sent to [email protected]. They reach a person rather than a voting widget. On whether it's maintained. It is, though I'll admit most of that work is invisible, which is the honest reason this looks quieter than it is. A lot of it isn't new features at all — it's keeping pace with things that move whether we like it or not. Apple and Google ship OS releases every year, each with new SDK requirements, signing and privacy rules, and store policies you have to meet or get delisted. Devices and screen sizes change. Dependencies age and need upgrading. Sync between web, iOS and Android has to keep working across all of it, including for people running old versions. None of that produces a changelog entry anyone gets excited about, but it's the difference between a product that still works in five years and one that quietly stops. On your security question — that's a reasonable thing to ask and I don't want to wave it away with a platitude. Dependency and platform upkeep is a real, ongoing part of the work. But I'm in customer support, not engineering, and you deserve a precise answer rather than a comfortable one from me. If you email [email protected] with your specific concern, I'll get it to someone who can answer it properly. On the forums being quiet — that one's just true, and it's a fair hit. We haven't been present here as much as we should be. I'd like to change that, and replying to this seemed like a reasonable place to start. Thanks @hasnain_2 for the update. It is rather quiet and somewhat concerning on here but good to get some reassurance that at least the product some of us rely on heavily is being maintained.
I'm also seeing regular posts from Toodledo on X; not with a lot of traction yet but hopefully they can entice new, paying users. |
