Just a quick comment on the Hotlist (As this topic comes up quite often). I would suggest to make it possible to optionally assign a Saved Search to be the HotList. This should be straightforward to develop and give the users a fully customizable hotlist. The saved search interface is intuitive and works well and is extremely flexible. It might take a bit of tweaking to get the correct search, but once it works, you have your hotlist.

(1) A greater number (not infinite) of subtask levels
...

Yes , I think that's a good point particularly "(not infinite)". I really think the general case for subtasks in not needed, however adding 1 or 2 levels would be helpful in solve most practical cases. Implementing the general case is probably quite difficult, particularly from a UI point of view.

I reall think the dependent task/contingent task feature often requested would also be helpful. It is not directly related to additional subtask levels, but being able to hide dependent tasks automatically would help Since in many cases we want the additional level of subtasks to hide tasks easily.

Hello!
Here is my feedback.

Generally I am very happy with TD and have been with it for around 10 years.

Tasks and Outlines do 100% of what I need.

I don't use Lists or Notes at the moment, the Note field in the tasks is enough for me.

Habits: I really liked this at first , but unfortunately habits does not have the ability to schedule X times per week or month, which is really needed for more general habits. In fact most of my "habits" require this eg exercise/practice scheduling among others and had to move away from TD for this.

Additionally it would be nice if we could somehow automatically have habits link to the tasks section eg appear as tasks. One way of doing this would be to have a tag "HABIT" be set optionally so that users who would like to see these in there tasks could easily filter there as well. The current tasks do not allow scheduling x times a week which probably is not very usefl for other types of tasks, so making the link might require some creativity. eg if a habit is close to becoming due set the task priority higher.

Most Habit apps have the schedulng feature (eg Habit Bull or the very powerful online and free tool Habitica), I am currently using Habitica,

However Toodledo can still provide a huge advantage over other habit tools since TD allows to have all these combined with other task management tools in one place. there was some debate about whether TD should support habits, however for me this was a really good move. habits are definitely "tasks" with their own peculiarities ( in particular more scheduling flexibility and tracking of performance).

Juat a follow-up on this topic, in fact something similar is already possible using IFTTT. I just added an IFTTT recipe which allows me to add an event to the google calendar ONLY if the toodledo task has a tag. Very useful and basically solves this key issue for me and hopefully others!

I now just tag my tasks with "cal" and the IFTTT recipe does the rest.

To the ToodleDo team: I would recommend updating the help section on the calendar syncing with the IFTTT solution, since this topic has come up frequently in the forum. using IFTTT is much more powerful than using the ical link proposed in the help section.

Hopefully we will see this feature sometime. I also really need the ability to exclude certain tasks from the calendar (anything would do, I can restructure my tasks), but either be able to include /exclude folders or tags etc. My google calendar is basically unusable without this feature.

This was requested back in 2009 by other users ...

This is a very clever idea and I definitely add my vote to up the priority. This would immediately solve the biggest issue I have with Toodledo:

I have a set of recurring tasks which I would like to execute in sequence. they are not high priority. However currently they clutter my task list especially when things become overdue. The contingent task feature is exactly what is needed so that I only see the current one. I hope this is implemented someday and it needs to work correctly for recurring tasks.

I have been trying for years to solve this, I have tried modelling these tasks as habits, subtasks and even outlines and using saved searches, but none do the job satisfactorily. Really the contingent task or linked task is exactly what is needed to solve this. I see many applications for this!

I am a bit surprised that no feedback has been given on this critical issue (even after I file my support ticket...).

Anyway here is what I see:

I am using the mobile web app, which was not syncing correctly and was regularly hopelessly out of sync with the online website. on my Android platform in Chrome, I cleared the cache completely. The website has now been in sync even after task changes on both the website and the mobile platform. For the moment I have not been able to reproduce the issue.

this seems to suggest that it is linked to my comment above:

"
I am a software developer and had similar issues, and would suggest considering the following (please feel to ignore of course...)

1. There may be issues between versions of your mobile site DB, does the end user have the version of the DB you are expecting??
"

Clearing the cache completely deletes the local storage data.

It still remains to be confirmed that this is the issue, but for the moment syncing is working for me.

NOTE: I am referring only to the mobile website in Chrome. The Android app sync did not work for me and I have stopped using the app. the above workaround will not help for the app.

I can confirm jimk222, clearing the browser cache on the mobile devices provides some relief (I am using website on android not the app since I had sync issues with the app). This garantees that the website viewed from a laptop and the on the mobile will be the same, but even after this cache clear, the mobile devices randomly get out of sync. so to be 100% safe, clear cache and use the mobile device for read only consultation and make modifications on the website.

if it helps you debug the issue please note that I have an ipad and I also can confirm that the offline website has the issue on ios (I use chrome there as well).

the case I am seeing the most is where I have ticked off tasks or deleted them.

Please provide some relief at least by providing an option to use the website version in online version only (not using local storage). That way for most of us that have 4g access or wifi all or most of the time we have a solution. of course offline issues should be fixed...

For many/ and perhaps most? people mobile/tablet access is the majority of use of TD, currently TD is unusable.

For some very quick partial relief, I cleared my cache settings on the browser and refreshed and then I see the same lists on my computer and mobile device. but this does not solve the sync issues.

I would prefer not to leave TD after 7years of use, but I basically no longer have a reliable task manager!

I agree with cj and many others have reported sync issues. I am currently looking at a list in android in my context view of about 10 tasks (using the site tasks.toodledo.com not the app). I look at the same context in the online site on my computer and I have only 1. In addition as I indicated I have tried using the Chrome function to refresh the page and the result is the same.

There should only be 1 task in his context because I had ticked the others off as completed several days ago.

I am happy to use workarounds, but clearly both the android app and the offline website are hopelessly out of sync. I suspected the issue for some time, but it is not easy to confirm, since sometimes I think I had forgotten to tick of a task (perhaps alzeihmer's settling into my brain?), but clearly there is an issue here!!!

Please treat this as a Critical/Showstopper. Android is by far the most popular platform these days, and without a reliable sync Toodledo is basically unusable on Android mobile devices.

I am currently scared to use the offline site in readonly mode since it might overwrite the online stuff which is up to date!!!

I am a software developer and had similar issues, and would suggest considering the following (please feel to ignore of course...)

1. There may be issues between versions of your mobile site DB, does the end user have the version of the DB you are expecting??

2. In order to be 100% sure, add a button somewhere so that we can easily completely clear the offline state and fully refresh, accepting the online version as 100% truth (with a warning that offline info will be deleted).

3. Consider having a separate link for the mobile offline site (eg m.toodledo.com) at least for testing. I am actually always online since 4g coverage is excellent in my area. So it is actually unfortunate that it is even trying to use offline functionality. (perhaps an option to turn this off while the bugs are being sorted out).

4. Consider offering me a job at TD (well paid) as this is the second time I am helping solve sync issues, I basically identified and reproduced the first one directly with the developer (NOtes page background sync issue)... :)

In any case in its current state, offline sync seems more like Alpha/Beta code rather than production code, and we don't have an option on Android.

Hopefully this will be treated as extremely high priority! I am sure multiple users have seen these issues, and have not considered that there is a bug here. Also not users are active forum users and as cj mentioned the issue is hard to reproduce.

I am using the mobile website on Android (instead of the app), and unfortunately I am seeing sync issues regularly, but they hard to reproduce. I often find that I delete a task from the website and it is not replicated in the offline website on android. I have also seen the reverse. They continue to be out of sync even after I force a refresh on the android mobile website.

I have a few questions for the mobile website.

1. What is the sync behaviour when I add a task assuming internet is available as wifi or 4g. My expectation is that the task would be immediately available on my computer when I go to the website.

2. Same question for task delete.

3. Let's say I make some modifications while offline on the mobile website on android, then internet becomes available and I click refresh in Chrome in the mobile web site. What is the expected behaviour?

It would be nice to have a button "Force sync" on android which ensures that the 2 platforms are identical.

I actually have been using the mobile website on Android as readonly since I am too often seeing sync issues.

I think the hotlist uses OR logic not AND logic. ie if your future tasks are medium or higher then they will show up in the hotlist. I use saved searches for more flexibility. you can easily setup a saved search called MyHotList and customize the criteria as you like.

I can confirm, I have the same issue with android. The syncing is very unreliable.

As I almost always have access to internet, I have switched to the mobile app. Unless you don't have internet access the mobile app is pretty much the same compared to android. (Situation is different on IOS, I find that the app is more advanced than the mobile web site). I have used both since I recently switched to an Android, but I still have an IPad.

Please consider adding the option "never" to when completed tasks are deleted. In longer term projects and some other cases, having a reference archive of what was done is quite useful. It is quite easy for those who want to delete these older tasks to do so using a simple search and batch edit. Additionally in the new interface deleting is really easy with the trash icon.

Unfortunately the response I have received from the support time is not helpful. Issue has been labelled as not reproducible and placed on the internal Todolist (Actually I had to send a reminder to get an update, else I am not convinced the ticket would have been answered!).

So given that Notes sync seems to be unreliable, my question is can a delete shortcut key please be added as high priority. (others have asked for a mass delete option), but even a shortcut would be extremely helpful. The shortcut should be simple to implement.

In the absence of a shortcut or mass delete or reliable sync, I basically cannot risk using the Notes anymore.

Some time ago I actually reported an annoying popup in the Notes and Outline section (concerning sync) and I received a similar response from the support team (we are not able to reproduce and have put on our todolist...) . After insisting and using my software dev experience, I guided the support team towards a solution which was finally implemented about 3 months after the ticket was submitted...

Yes, i read first post, but can't understand :) do you have a plan to develop iOS app? When?

I'm gold-user several years and i want to use the app on my iPhoneX. Right now it's really bad. And to be honest i forced to review another apps (((

Thanks for toodledo!

I have been thinking a bit about app/offline mode/mobile website (I am a senior developer). Here are my thoughts:

1. when I started using TD years ago, offline was very important for me, now it is irrelevant, the cost of 4G-5G is small, so unless you spend most of your time on an airplane, offline is not that important and it seems to be the general direction of the software, since things are moving to the cloud extremely fast (Microsoft OneDrive, Sharepoint adn Office 365 are good examples). Does TD still need a complete offline offering which is a costly dev effort? Personally I would prefer to see efforts invested elsewhere.

2. Mobile Website, I am wondering if TD's strategy may be to move away from apps and just have the website on all platforms, much easier to maintain from a coding point of view. Given today's technology there is very little that can be done in an app and not in a website. Apps are usually needed for complex games, you can probably have most or all of TD in a website.

TRUE! I didn't think about this possibility! In fact finally the Hotlist is somewhat of a special case of the much more general Saved Search, thanks for the tip.

I just noticed that hotlist does not include due on/due optionally on tasks. If I have my hotlist set to include all tasks for the next 5 days tasks that are due on or optionally on in the next 5 days do not appear. This should at least be an option I think since a task that needs to be done on a specific day will often require some preparation/planning in the previous days.

My issue is that some of this are quite important for me. I could increase the priority or add a star to have them appear, but then they would appear always, not just a few days before as with my other tasks.

Note that even the "optionally on" tasks in my case should appear in my hotlist, I used optionally on quite a bit to avoid having to tick off these recurring tasks which are actually not tasks just some regular "habit type" tasks. such as fitness workout schedules etc. I currently don't have the flexibility to schedule these in the Habits section,so I use optionally recurring tasks, but then I run into this limitation. I also signalled a related limitation before in that these tasks I would like to exclude from my calendar, but that's already on your todo list.
