Thanks for your reply, Jake. However, I have to take exception to some of it.

1. You're the one who overloaded that "small team" that is now spread so thin. Before Outlines and Lists were added, they were spread thin. Now they're being drawn and quartered.

2. "Just a few added keystrokes". When you redid the interface a few years back, you stated that one of your goals was to minimize keystrokes for users. Is that no longer a consideration? Besides, it's somewhat more than "a few keystrokes". It requires doing a Control F, the reentering the search word, either by cut and paste, or by retyping.

What concerns me is that the Notes feature was added before I became a regular user 4 years ago. And for 4 years, it's languished like an orphan step-child, without even this most basic feature (I won't call it an "enhancement", it's too basic for that term).

I find this very frustrating. It seems that the strategy is to add new features which are barely connected to your base application, task management, to attract new customers, without regard for your established customers. Not just power users, like those of us active in these forums, but general users, who expect the features available to have, at the very least, certain levels of basic functionality, like being able to find words in Notes. These is the kind of discontent that drive established customers to look elsewhere. Only you can decide what path to choose between attracting new customers and losing established ones.

And by the way, I have hundreds of friends who will sign up for platinum service tomorrow if you fix this feature! :)

Oh, so the "primary sort" is alphabetical?

The primary sort is whatever you select from the list. If you want it to be alphabetical, select alphabetical.

Up until this week, I only kept a few special notes in TD's Notes, related to tasks in TD. I'm trying to streamline my life, and decided to move a bunch (~160) notes) from a standalone desktop app I've been using for work related notes into TD Notes to simplify my life a bit.

But the first time I really needed to use TD Notes, and had to do a search in a lengthy note for a keyword, I discovered that while TD can tell me that keyword is in which notes, it can't tell me exactly where. It doesn't highlight the word or in any way actually locate it, so I have to scroll and hunt trying to find it. Or do a Control F second search to find the work within the note. This is just not acceptable. This renders the Notes tab, the oldest of the add-ons in TD, virtually useless for my, and most, purposes.

How many requests have there been, that I didn't notice because until now, it didn't effect me, asking for this? Can anyone name one other Notes app out there that doesn't have this basic functionality?

This is very disappointing. I had just decided to stop my search for a new task manager that was still under development and still getting new, useful features and stick with TD. But now I feel let-down yet again. Adding new top level "features", like Outlines and Lists, which have very limited functionality, like Notes, while almost entirely ignoring the fact that many of the existing features don't even have basic functionality like this.

I'm afraid that my search for a still under-development task management app continues. Not to mention I have to move the first few notes I moved to TD Notes back to a searchable app.

I understand the business strategy of adding these high level features to attract new customers by having a nice long checklist of features to offer. However, I suspect that many of the new customers will be very disappointed when they discover that you can't do an effective search in those Notes, and that Lists and Outlines are similarly crippled, and may not stick around very long.

Discovered a little more. It can't cope with passwords with spaces, so probably legit but flawed.

Interesting. I have over 50 passwords in my list for various apps and websites, and not a one of them accepts blank spaces in the password. In fact, I can't recall of ever hearing of one since I first got online in the late 80s. Can you tell me one or two? I'm very curious.

Its the only thing about ToodleDo that bugs me - if a task is 1 month in the future, I dont need to see it on my task list all the time.

Maybe you haven't heard about Saved Searches. I suggest you find them in the help screens (maybe there's a video?) so you can create your own Hotlist (you can even call it whatever you like!) which excludes tasks more than 4 weeks or 3 weeks, or 2 weeks or...

This is one reason why there's an iOS version of TD. The website is not compatible with mobile touch screen devices.

A simpler solution to forgetting "Waiting" tasks, is to put them in your weekly review. If you don't do a weekly review, add a weekly repeating task, "Review waiting tasks". Then you won't forget. This is one of TD's best features, it can remind you to do tasks you might otherwise forget!

Been using Grocery Gadget on my iPhone for a month now, and am very please with it. It has a somewhat quirky interface, as I mentioned above, but I like quirky as long as it's not obtuse or complicated, which GG is not. It takes me a fraction of the time it took with TD to simply mark an item to be on my list for that week. In all fairness, I was running TD thru Chrome and the slim site, which is definitely not optimal. Would have been much quicker using the iOS TD app for sure.

It did lock up a few times at first, but either the app has settled down since, or maybe they did a fix. In any case, it hasn't done that in quite a while. One related criticism, I posted a query about this problem on their website a month ago, but never got a reply. So apparently, there is no support. Fortunately, I haven't needed any since.

I recommend GG if you have a long shopping list and shop at multiple stores. It also can track different costs and aisles at different stores, coupons, multiple shoppers and probably your shoe size, if you want. If you can get past that first qualm, if you have it, with the interface, it does just about everything you could want in a shopping app.

Another option: I had a similar problem with 2 TD accounts a few years ago. I couldn't find a third party app (back then) that mimiced all the TD features I wanted. I found a workaround that worked quite well, which was to access my main account through one browser (Safari), and the other account through Chrome. This way, I didn't have to purge and mess around with the accounts. Literally for years after I crossed the two accounts, a tag from one was in the other, and even though no tasks used it, it hung in there!

Hmmm. Can you also affect the Hotlist via the Status field? That is, if I move the task to Reference (or some other non-Active status), will the Hotlist know that I'm not going to do it right now? If not, shouldn't it?

This is why some (many?) of us no longer use the TD Hotlist. It's relatively easy to create one to meet your exact needs as a Saved Search. Then you can include any field you want, any date restraints you want. Mine excludes certain folders (like my Templates folder), tags (like my Weekly Review tag), and, of course, status.

I have just moved away from using TD as my grocery list (I believe there are dedicated apps that work better for this purpose), but here is the link to the method I used to do this in TD:
http://www.toodledo.com/forums/3/15385/-77997/a-td-grocery-list.html

It may or may not work for you, or maybe it will give you an idea of how to make a better shopping list for yourself.

You English is quite good, far better than my imaginary "German"!

You can create virtually any search you can imagine using any of the available fields in TD. To create a "Due in the next 10 Days", click on Search in the upper left corner, then "New Search". Leave the
Checked Off|no
criteria as is, the change the one below to
Due Date|Is in the Next|10 days
Click Search
Then you can save the Search by clicking on Save Search in the upper right hand corner of the TD screen.

You may find that the Saved Searches are the real power of TD. Many of us "live" entirely in the Saved Search screen. I've even re-created a few of the built-in searches in the Saved Search screen so I rarely go to the others.

Almost 2 years ago, I posted here that I had created a grocery list app using a TD free account. http://www.toodledo.com/forums/3/15385/-77997/a-td-grocery-list.html

It worked well for a while, but has become, like it's predecessor, slow and kludgy feeling. It didn't scroll well and adding new items was not easy. This is nothing against TD as it is not intended for this purpose, and I was just using it because I had it, knew how to adopt it to my needs, and I was fed up with the one I'd been using for years and had spent a lot of time looking at grocery list apps for what I wanted.

So I finally went back and started looking for a grocery app that has all the features I wanted, and this time, I found one. It's called Grocery Gadget and it has the main feature I had so much trouble finding is the ability to have multiple stores per item because I shop regularly at 4 different grocery stores. GG can do that and considerably more, and it has a mostly intuitive, if not a bit odd, interface that I figured out in a few minutes of playing with it. It's much faster and more intuitive for a grocery list, and works very well for my purposes. By the way, I have no financial interest in GG, just giving it my recommendation.

So I'm no longer using TD for my grocery list and am happy to be moving on. Again, this is not to be interpreted as a criticism of TD as a task manager in any way, it's just less than ideal as a grocery list tool, though it's served the purpose for almost 2 years. It just shows how flexible it can be.
